MEC scatt-rifle

for youngsters and schoolchildren - without risk

The idea: a sporting rifle for youngsters and schoolchildren, without risk, but with almost all of the elements of a 'real' target rifle, without bullets, a rifle with which the true skills of target shooting can be learned and improved, without any cares or legal concerns. The rifle is light, so that long play sessions don't call for strength or overstress the spinal column. Uncomplicated, so nothing gets in the way of the fun of practising. The key technology for the Scatt rifle is the well-known Scatt SCATT-Programme. The unquestionable quality of this Infra-Red analysis is more precise than any target rifle and at the same time produces an exact representation of the shot-hole and its position. This technology has long been in use in the leading training centres. The attractive price meanwhile brings use at home and in the club within reach. 'Dry training' within one's own four walls becomes a new world of experience, whether alone or with the family, as soon as you learn how to shoot accurately for every tenth. All distances between 10 and 50 metres can be perfectly simulated in five easy steps. Effective training within your own four walls.

And so to the „scatt-rifle “, the first rifle specially made for computerised target shooting. It features a carefully formed thumbhole stock made from striking wood laminate, constructed by top stockmaker Fürstenberg in Arnsberg. Weight, length and proportion fit almost any anatomy. With the MEC-contact buttplate, the MEC-trigger and the MEC-tube, it is equipped to the very latest standards. A hitherto unique magnetic trigger mechanism, newly developed for this purpose, permits any desired trigger release frequency (suited for biathlon) with virtually perfect characteristics. You only need to try it to be convinced!

Sighting is achieved by means of a fixed rearsight, because adjustment is managed through the computer. A tunnel front sight from sight specialists centra completes the picture. Because the „scatt-rifle “ is not a rifle at all in the sense of the firearms regulations, there is no restriction on its use. Critical parents will find that children who learn the skills of rifle shooting soon demonstrate better concentration and higher school performance. This observation, well-known to sports leaders, is now confirmed by a Japanese study. If things aren't going well at school, take your brood to the shooting range. In clubs, the possibilities of the „scatt-rifle “are boundless. 6-11 year-old hangers-on no longer need to be sat in a corner and consoled with 'one day you can try'. They can begin to learn the skills right away through regular training. Once they have had a short introduction, they don't even need overseeing, clubs in the district can compete against each other without any age boundaries. Of course, one thing is for sure: come the twelfth birthday, naturally its time for the real thing and the air rifle comes into play.

Until then, the scatt-rifle offers many variations on a theme, to bring colour to everyday practice. At the moment, the biathlon simulation attracts plenty of interest, if the first demonstrations are anything to go by. Shooting jackets or trousers are not necessary for the youngest, because the low basic weight of the scatt-rifle (2,5 Kilos) allows the shooting position to be learned without the aid of supportive clothing.

Club open days and presentations in the city centre or the town hall are fertile ground for the scatt-rifle. With no security risks and little effort, the whole fascination of target shooting can be demonstrated to the general public. Used with a projector, Scatting becomes a show which puts many another demonstration to shame.

The scatt-rifle was developed in the Dortmund training centre, in close co-operation between the Westfälischen Schützenbund and Maik Eckhardt. From the outset, the goal was to open a path for children to find their way into shooting clubs. The first experiments and trial runs took place in the Training Centre. And at the State Championships last year, when 90 schoolchildren from Westfalen took part in the first tournament using the prototype, at the same time providing the designers with many important tips.
